I did not set a masterpassword, but Firefox claims there is one and I cannot change or remove it.

How do I discover, change, or remove the master password? I don't recall ever setting one but my profile shows that I have one. I cannot remove it without knowing what is is and there is no PW recovery mechanism.

Try to rename/remove pkcs11.txt and secmode.db in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to see if that has effect.

If that doesn't help then you can also rename/remove logins.json and key4.db. This will remove all passwords you currently see in the Password Manager, so if you currently have passwords showing in the Password Manager then you need to make a note.

Thanks for the effort, but it's somewhat cryptic for me. I just upgraded to Win 10. I have used Firefox for years with Win 7. I never used the PW manager, and I don't know where to find the program file. I am almost ready to use Chrome to get rid of these irritating quirks that didn't exist in Win 7. Perhaps you can lay out the steps?

Sorry, I forgot to add instructions to access the profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Make sure that Firefox is closed when you make rename or delete changes to files in the profile folder.

First try to rename or remove: pkcs11.txt and secmode.db If that doesn't work then rename or remove: logins.json and key4.db
