One day everything okay, next day ugh! Firefox and Chrome will not connect to internet. Microsoft IE and Edge are okay. Internet connections okay. OS: Win10 with Bitdefender AV/Firewall. Not using Windows Firewall.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

You can do a malware scan just to be sure.

I have the same AV as before Firefox went down. I have completely removed the AV and reinstalled. Turning it off and using Windows Defender and Firewall also do nothing to fix problem. I find no reference to exceptions or rules regarding Firefox and Chrome in my AV software or Windows for that matter. The functions of Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge in accessing the Internet are the same as for Firefox or Chrome. Those work. WHY then won't Firefox and Chrome. That seems to be the 64 dollar question.

Did you do a malware scan?

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
