Seeking add-on which creates hyperlinks using right-click/context menu

more options

I use Wordpress and various other online editing/publishing platforms to create posts. In the past, I found an extension that uses the right click/context menu to create hyperlinks without having to use the editor/toolbar to do this. Does anyone know of a current extension that will do this?

Could you give me a more complete picture of how it is supposed to work?

For example:

(1) Right-click a target page, copy the URL and title.

(2) Right-click in your WordPress compose box, insert link to the target page.

First, I would visit a website and copy its URL (for the purposes of hyperlinking). Then in the text editor box, I would highlight text to be hyperlinked, right click for the context menu, click on the "create hyperlink" option (or any suitable name), which would open a dialogue box which would feature 2 fields: one, "text," would have the text I'd highlighted; the second, "URL," would contain the URL in my clipboard. Then I'd click on "save" or whatever name, which would finish creating the hyperlink in the text editor.

This is much the way the Wordpress editor interface works except that you must move your mouse cursor up to the editing toolbar and highlight "create link." Also, in WP, it doesn't automatically insert the URL which is in your clipboard, so you have to left click and paste it into the URL field. All of which creates a lot of extra mouse clicks which could be streamlined.

This should work for any text editor, not just Wordpress. Or there could be different versions of it for different browsers/platforms.

@Richard Silverstein, from what your asking there is not a simple thing your asking. The only piece of software that I used that could do that was MS Office Suite Word and in that it will make hyperlink that you can rename but the URL is there when you click on the hyperlink. So what your asking can't be done by a Addon/Extension currently that I know of - unless someone there has created it.

Hi Richard, although extensions are restricted in how they work with the clipboard, they could gather information from other documents on right-click for later insertion. So I believe it's theoretically possible if you can work that way.

I didn't see anything in a quick search on the Add-ons site. What was the old extension called? If you still have it installed, you could check the list of "legacy" extensions using a link at the top of the Extensions list. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then look for a link near the top of the page to "Show legacy extensions."

Unfortunately, I don't still have that extension installed and don't remember it's name. But I've done pretty extensive searches both within FF and Chrome & online & not found anything resembling it. I'm guessing the extension is long since abandoned.

There is this extension you can look at:

Yes, That's what I'm looking for and BBCodeXtra was the old extension I once used, which is mentioned in that thread. Unfortunately, Edit doesn't use the right click drop down context menu as BBCodeXtra did. That makes it less streamlined and useful. But I gather there may be technical reasons preventing this option.
