Good afternoon,

A coworkers laptop had an issue, I deployed a new laptop with a new installation of firefox. Ran Firefox.exe -P and created a new profile, told it to load from that profile on startup. Then copied everything from his original laptop's firefox profile into the new laptop's firefox profile.

In the past this has worked immediately, opening firefox results in his bookmarks, tabs and features all coming back. As of today however, when opening forefox is just adds new folders "Cashe2" and one other, then opens as if it's a brand new profile without loading ANY of the data in the folder!

So here we go, I have the contents of his profile, how do I get firefox to load those contents now-a-days?

Thanks,

Lee

You are in the wrong location (AppData\Local). You need to copy the files to the profile folder in "AppData\Roaming".

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile in "AppData\Roaming" that keeps your personal data.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Thank you cor-el. Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory

Though I'd tried it before posting, it wasn't immediately clear that the appdata/roaming location it was pointing to was on a network drive, not the local PC. It was, however, making folders on the local machine, under his user, just not loading from them! :9
