This is happening in yahoo.com and rogers.com. It started about a week ago, when Rogers had problems with its email certificate. Before that, after downloading the emails they would show as read in Mozilla. Since Feb. 1, even after downloading they show in Bold (unread). I can turn to read (not Bold) if I read them in the browser or if I click the dot on the left hand side. I already checked the settings and it is "Mark as read" "immediately" I usually check the spam in the browser before downloading the messages in order to delete or send to the inbox its emails. Before downloading I also check the inbox, to make sure there is no spam and to see whether I have to delete any emails. With almost everything in bold, it becomes much more difficult to see what is new and what has already been checked. Thank you for any help you might provide.

I suggest you ask Rogers/Yahoo what they have changed.

Thank you for the suggestion Matt, but I did ask their tech support. They couldn't solve it. They transfer me to "Tech Expert Support". They couldn't solve it. They said they were going to escalate it and call me "if" they find a solution. I have been waiting for three days for their call.

Sometimes an E-mail client, such as Thunderbird, does not have sufficient writing privileges, and cannot mark them as read. You may need to check your permissions on your account.
