Why am I suddenly getting multiple copies of past emails, several hundred per day?
Starting yesterday (Jan 11), Thunderbird suddenly started downloading old emails from December and January, into my inbox folders in all my accounts. It usually downloads several copies (4-8) of each email at once. I'm getting them faster than I can delete them! I use Windows 7, and have tried restarting Thunderbird and also rebooting my computer, but nothing helps. Suggestions?

Are you using POP?
Usually this can be fixed by either - unchecking Leave messages on server in the account’s Server Settings (and if required, checking it again after a one-time fetch) in case it is checked, or - by removing the popstate.dat file in your profile folder, or - by compacting your mail folders, or - by removing the *.msf files in your profile folder
Note that by deleting the popstate.dat file, you will receive all messages as new if you always had Leave messages on server checked, so you might want to move all Inbox messages to another folder first.
If nothing helps, have a look at this page. Can you report back?

I first tried compacting the mail folders, and that seems to have done the trick! Thank you so much!
