I selected empty trash, and TBird deleted my Inbox. Wtf?

Selected empty trash from drop down menu on the right. Now my inbox is deleted on Tbird & on the server, wonderful eh. Very disappointing, over 800 messages gone. The trash folder still has the >200 messages in it.
