Shockwave Flashplayer 20.0r0 fails to update in FF 44.0.2. Final install page hangs without completion. Shockwave not loaded.
I am running Win 8.1 64 bit. Firefox runs smoothly, except for the inability to update Shockwave. All other software is current. I also run AVG Internet Security, which is up-to-date.
When trying to update to the current Shockwave Flash version ( 20.0r0), the installation hangs on the final install page.
Page 3 (of 3) of the installation pages displays the following message Here is another product that might interest you. The product is never shown and the page just hangs.
When I return to the Add-ons Manager Page, Shockwave Flash continues to display the following message:
"Shockwave Flash is known to be vulnerable and should be updated. Update now. Shockwave Flash Shockwave Flash 20.0r0

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape: Adobe Reader Version 2015.009.20069 Note: McAfee Security is offered in the download.
Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac
Then reinstall the latest version.
Flash Player Version Version: 20.0.0.306
https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Note: Windows users should download the ‘’’active_x’’’ for “Internet Explorer,”
and the ‘’’plugin’’’ for “Plugin-based browsers” (like Firefox).
Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the ’’’plugin’’’ only. Not the ’’’active_x’’’.
Adobe still offers Flash 18.0.0.326 as its extended support release further down

Thank you for this advice. I could not find an option where Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.5.5" was available for removal.
I went on to the next issue (my original question) and used the uninstaller to uninstall Shockwave Flash (following FredMcD's procedure).
I then reinstalled Shockwave Flash, as recommended by FredMcD.
After completing the procedure, Shockwave Flash appears to be correctly installed and is no longer listed as "out of date."
Good to hear, about the player that is.
Type about:plugins<enter> in the address bar. Now search for the plugin.
Example; Adobe Acrobat File: nppdf32.dll,nppdf32.dll Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll,C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll Version: 11.0.9.29 State: Enabled Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.9
This will show you the path to that program. Copy the Path Only. Also note the name of the file, and remember it. Now Close Firefox. Open your file browser and paste the path in the address bar. Find the file, and delete it. Now you can restart Firefox. Warning ! Remember to delete the right program.
To be safe, remove all of them. Then install the current.
