Suddenly after exiting Yahoo e-mail, I had a pop-up showing it was a FF pop-up, wanting me to "open", and no matter what I do it continues to pop-up. There were 2 pop-ups, one referencing https://s.yimg.com, and r-sf.html (640 bytes) AND another one referencing the same thing except this one had the reference as r-csc.html (1.1 kb). The only way I can get rid of them is to keep clicking cancel. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO FIREFOX?

If these files are opened, as the default shows, I remove them from the downloads, however they continue to pop up when I open the browser.

i need help AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Thank you for the link to the similar question, FredMcD. It appears that the new update may have been the problem. I've just installed the new update now (43.0.1) so hoping there will be no more of these problems.

I don't know what I did yesterday, however these pop-ups finally disappeared. I have FF set to clear everything when the browser closes, so there is nothing in the cache. However whatever was causing the problem, these pop-ups have disappeared.

Thank you all for your replies. They are very much appreciated!!!

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you both for your replies - - - - I cannot remain on the computer any longer, so will check tomorrow to determine if the Firefox pop-ups are still there.

Usually when you log out of Yahoo Mail, Yahoo sends you to their home page or some other page. My guess is that these "downloads" are are glitch, maybe ads or some other content meant to show in a popup window or integrate into the page (for example, in a frame). Hopefully one of the above suggestions will resolve it, or Yahoo will fix it.
