Why has TB suddenly stopped downloading all HREFs, even in safe mode?
I receive a number of regular newsletters that contain images. Until yesterday TB showed such emails with all the images appearing where they should. Yesterday I was trying to sort out a minor problem with one of those daily newsletters and I viewed the source HTML to help me. Since then none of the images have shown up and each one is displayed only as an empty box with a dimmed-out icon in the top left corner. This applies not only to newly-arrived emails but even to old stored emails.
I have run TB in safe mode a couple of times to check whether it would clear the problem. It makes no difference!.I have two email accounts and find the same problem in both of them. I cannot find anything in the account settings or options that help.
NOTES: (1) My email server for both accounts is GMAIL. Using Firefox to view the newsletters in GMAIL.COM, I can see them exactly as they should be. (2) I have noticed a number of add-ons in the list that I cannot remember having installed. In sfae mode they are all disabled, so I cannot assume that they are the cause of my problems and have not, so far, removed them.

Have you rebooted you machine? sometime issues which have no apparent cause are just as easily fixed by turning off the power and letting the wheels cool and the hamster to breath.
Unfortunately no help, Matt!
- I always shut down the PC every night and reboot it the next time I use it.
- It is not the result of a downloading problem - all the old previously-saved messages show the same fault when redisplayed now.
If this occurred in saved (Firefox) web pages, I would know where to look - i.e. for an associated folder of cross-referenced files that had somehow disappeared. Where does Thunderbird store the same things? Or is there a hidden option to prevent them being displayed?
Are they embedded images or linked.... My guess is linked to a web site and your anti virus / firewall is messing up because Thunderbird's version has changed. But that is only a guess.
No Matt, it is not an antivirus or firewall problem! It seems to have arisen from an earlier need to read the HTML source of one particular message.
Once I had done that by clicking on Ctrl-U, TB refused to go back to displaying any message as normal.
By messing around with the View As and Display Attachments Inline options, I can persuade TB to display any individual message correctly. But I need to know how to make that the automatic option for all messages again. Any idea on how to do that, please?

Whatever the reason, the problem has now disappeared!! Thanks to all for replies.
