frequently crashes during spell check
Often crashes during spell check. Crash report included in previous posts as forum posting does not allow text file to be attached. Thunderbird did not offer a chance to post crash report on crash, so this is gleaned from re-start

It looks like this crash has been around a while. Bug 834487 is tracking it
Lets see if we can workout the cause. It looks from the bug report it is still something of a mystery.
So language? Dictionary used? Do you have issues if you use another dictionary?
Does the message contain information pasted from another source like word or Excel or Libre Office?
It is english using English (United Kingdom) I have not used another dictionary. I guess it crashes about one in about 50 spell corrections and crashes if I ask it to correct (it switches to "not responding" and never recovers).
The table was taken from "troubleshooting information from Thunderbird menu, which it gives an option to e-mail, but I do not have a support e-mail, so the best I could do was to paste into the forum message.

XP, lots of memory and disk space. 24.8.1 works fine. In later versions, while in spell check, some times the machine hangs up. Nothing works. Must Ctrl/Alt/Del and kill Thunderbird.
I allow updating to later versions, but this problem returns, so I revert to 24.8.1 and it works again.

how do you revert to 24.8.1 ?
I have just had one more crash so would like to find a more stable version
I'm still getting endless crashes during spell check, so that my regular routine is to grab a screen image of my mail and past that into a new mail after I have re-started Thunderbird. I'm going to install and older version of thunderbird 24.8.1 to see if it fixes is. Please fix this in the current release.
While there also fix that mailing to my mail groups fails 100% unless I backspace over the last letter in the mailgroup name and re-type it. All annoying and slows me up.
I reverted to 24.8.1 and it still crashes. So I will re-update to the latest again.
In the meantime I think I'll just have to turn spelling off.
Even if the bug cannot be fixed, can you put in defensive code that if it fails that it simply does not do a spelling correction rather than crash? As-is it appears to crash maybe one in 10 to 20 words or so.
