a) When a page is refreshed (or is loading) there is NO indicator of activity. This is an important usability feature, so please can it be restored? b) And related to the above, why is the refresh button moved so far away from the rest of my buttons (at the start of the URL box) ? And why can't it be placed whete I want it, not where Firefox thinks I want it? This again is a major usability issue. Please make the button customisable.

And please don't start telling me there are various addons, or config fixes that will do what I want. These are issues that Joe Public is experiencing, and need to be fixed in the base product.

rgds.

Is this about the tab that currently has focus or are you referring to tabs that refresh automatically?

You should see the throbber on the tab bar if you reload the page. You should also see a stop button on the location bar instead of the refresh button.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks. I as wrong about no refresh indicator, as you have pointed out. But because I use side tabs the throbber is not easy to spot. It's not easy to spot anyway, being (a) small and (b) low contrast. A nice big throbber (a la original browsers!) would be much better.

The refresh button (as I first reported) is (a) in the wrong place and (b) not readily customisable (if at all).

As a general aside, usability is what differentiates browsers. Firefox is gradually pushing me towards Chrome. I would rather stay with Firefox, but both are free and I will choose the most usable.
