This is an unsolicited ad for "winning" an I phone. I am very tired of winning all this junk. I certainly do not want ads talking to me now.

You can do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

This appears above the page, in the toolbar area? That's probably caused by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or remove).

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that get rid of the ad?

Two other things:

(1) You may want to check the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, for any undisclosed bundle items. Click the "Installed on" column heading to group by date so they are easier to spot. Remove whatever looks suspicious or unnecessary.

(2) You may want to supplement your regular security software with some of the scanning/cleaning programs listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

I did not see a reply so I marked it unsolved. Your first suggestions don't apply as I have everything disabled and others "ask to activate"

I checked for new programs and ran across a "Save sense" I don't know how it got there but it's gone now. Perhaps that was the venue for which the annoying "You got mail" came from. This was the first talking add I ever got and it would not stop until I muted the speaker. Even going in and proceeding a bit and then cancelling did not stop it.

Now I don't see it so I hope it's gone.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help!

Thanks. I removed a program I did not recognize and haven't seen it since.
