Thunderbird installs and looks like it's importing everything but only mail is and nothing for settings or filters. In fact I can't find a means to even add the e-mail account settings. This is nothing like my older versions of Thunderbird were but that's been a few years ago. I could use some advice. I'm trying to install version 24.6.0

first Thunderbird is a 32 bit application and can only import from 32 bit outlook. (not sure where I heard that)

Second, press F10 to see the traditional menu (makes life easier.) Use the toolbars option on the view menu to turn them on permanently.

Does that help?

Actually Office 2003 is 32 bit and F10 doesn't do anything but I appreciate the thought.

do you already have the menu turned on then?

It's in the default state. There is an option by right mouse click to turn on/off mail toolbar and menu toolbar. Both are on. Get Email is greyed out.

Ok Tools menu > account setting. To check that no account settings come over. The absence of an account in the left hand pane is no indication nothing transferred. Tools menu > import to import individual components such as address books that did not import. If you have had a partial import, avoid the everything option, as it is not going to work for you.
