How do I make the history of my searches private?

more options

I do not want to keep a history of what I search on the Internet when I use Firefox. I have not been able to set this setting on the Firefox app. Please advise.

I do use Firefox on my laptop, and the history does not record, but on the smart phone app the history gets recorded, and I do not want that.

Thanks!

Firefox stores form field history and search history together and you can clear them together or disable both of them together.

(1) Clearing the data

Use the menu button for your platform (either hardware menu button or the 3-stacked-dots menu button on the address bar)

Settings > Privacy > Clear Private Data

Check the ones you want to clear and uncheck the ones you want to save.

(2) Turning off the FormFill feature

There is no dialog for this, so you need to do a little work under the covers using the about:config preferences editor.

In the Awesomebar, type or paste about:config and tap the Go arrow. You may want to bookmark this page if you like to tinker with settings.

Type form into the search box and pause while Firefox filters the list to show preferences that contain form.

Tap browser.formfill.enable to select it and the word Toggle should appear. Tap that to switch the value from true to false.

That should prevent form data and searches from being saved going forward. However, search results pages still will appear in your history.
