my desk top icon for firefox will not start firefox when i click on it. i now have to right click and than click open.

Try to create a new desktop shortcut for the Firefox program by going to the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) and use the right-click context menu (Send to > Desktop) on the Firefox.exe file.
