I opened Firefox and noted that the info line said I was running an old version of Firefox. I followed the instructions to upgrade and after I did I rebooted and when Firefox opened again it still told me to upgrade. I went through the process 4 more times and it still tells me to upgrade. I am confused.

What is telling you to update? If it is google.com/firefox then it is wrong! That page is no longer maintained. You should change your homepage to about:home or the page of your choice

Are you still using the old defult www.mozilla.com/firefox/ homepage that was in use before Firefox 4.0?. Google has not been maintaining the page ever since so it may still give this old message.

As of Firefox 4.0 it has the default homepage of about:home.

Either ignore the message or go and change it to another page.

To change it go to Tools->Options- (orange Firefox button ->Options) -> General -> Homepage.
