If you clear the recent history manually then there is not problem with App Tabs and Tab Groups getting lost and you can remove any data that you want.. There is only a problem when you do that automatically each time you close Firefox. Your first screenshot shows that you only clear the cache on exit, so that should be OK.

Sorry I think this is "operator error". I think I was creating tab groups but closing the page instead of clicking on the tab group button and choosing the tab group I wanted to use.
How do I put solved to this post when I've answered it myself please

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox profile folder.
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.
Hello cor_el at 0931 BST Thursday 14th July 2011 in Manchester UK. Thanks for your response but I'm scared of which boxes to tick in Clear Recent History and the time span so I don't make a mess of it. I ran Clear Recent History when I opened Firefox just about twenty minutes ago before I read yout reply and all my tab groups had gone so I've rebuilt them
I like to keep my machine clean of recent history/temp files etc. so how do I 'Clean My Recent History/Temp Files etc' without making a mess of it please and losing my tab groups
Thanks pingu70

When I Show My Windows and Tabs from Last Session all my tab groups are there (and open in the background) when I open but if I use Open Blank Page my tab groups are not there.

I have put my settings to a tick in Clear Recent History "Cache" only and unticked all the other options. Is this correct please?. I'm hoping this will keep my browsing history and save my last session and tab groups. I have trawled through the help during the night which forced two seizures on me due to anxiety but my wife was with me. I'm waiting to click on the Solved Button please
Thank You

Which boxes are currently ticked in Clear Recent History?
- Tools > Options > Privacy : History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
Clear Recent History is not enabled by default, so if it is now then you or an extension did enable that.
If you want to keep using it then you only need to make sure that the "Browsing History" don't have a tick to prevent App Tabs from being removed (App Tabs are considered as history because you visit sites).
Sorry cor-el do you mean the automatically clean when it shuts down. The only tick I have is in Cache.
Sorry I'm not getting the hang of your replies. Thanks for your patience.

You're welcome
Sorry cor-el I'm back again just had a seizure worrying. Could you suggest where I need ticks to do a MANUAL clean without losing my tab groups. I like to stay free of clutter. I have sent the image again
Thanks pingu70
Those settings are OK. You only remove your personal data from visiting websites. You do not remove tabs from tab groups via manual clear recent history.
You can make a backup copy of the file sessionstore.js in the profile folder to save the Tab Groups and App Tabs.
Then you can restore that file if you lose them somehow.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
I'm still scared. Is it better to do an auto when closing or manual please cor-el. The Everything option is scaring me but if I click solved does that close the call down or can I come back later to it.
You've sent me a link about Profile. I have another fault in about Profile as below

Why do you want to clear the recent history so often?
There is usually no need to do that all the time.
As I have posted above, it is no problem to clear the history manually (any item in your screenshot), but you only can't clear the browsing history automatically if you want to do that each time you close Firefox. So you can clear all other items except the browsing history automatically.
If you still feel uncomfortably then make a backup copy of sessionstore.js like I posted above. Then you can restore that session data at any time by copying that file back to the profile folder.
Hello cor-el at 2325 BST in Manchester. I have decided to stay away from Manual clear and do a setup for auto close when Firefox closes as per the image. Will these settings be alright please. Could you confirm this is ok. I DO HAVE THE CLEAR HISTORY HELP PAGE AND VIDEO AS A BOOKMARK. I'm always reading it. I'm a bit distressed about the number of seizures I'm having at the moment with this problem.
Could you possibly put my link about Profile into your "in-tray" please for me.
Regarding sessionstore.js there is a sessionstore.bak in the Profile. Is this a backup of the current sessionstore.js or the previous sessionstore.js
I have temporarily "Unsolved" the question.
Thank You for your patience and great effort

Hello cor-el at 0220 BST Tuesday 19th July. Very Sorry your auto close settings suggestions DO NOT WORK. Image 3 attached. All my Tab Groups disappeared. I rebuilt them all and changed my auto close settings to Image 4 just one tick in cache and they all loaded next time. I'm puzzled!!!
I have temporarily "Unsolved" the question
Many Thanks Again for your patience and a great effort. Well Done

That shouldn't happen with those settings.
Does it still happen if you do not use Clear Recent History on exit?
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and all open tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
