I have XP and firefox 3.6. I was getting rid of Bing and changed a line in about:config to true. Now when I put a address in the address bar, it does a search. I can't go to about:config. It does a search instead. Same with any web address. It does a search.

I discovered that I didn't get rid of Bing after all. I just hid it. In order to get the location bar back, I had to put Bing back. I still need to remove Bing search. It's an app not a program and I can't find it. Any ideas?

Sounds that you are using the (Google) search bar.
Check that you still have the location bar on the Navigation Toolbar.

  • Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
  • If you see the missing item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window onto one of the toolbars.
  • If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button
