Is 72.14.204.103 (and 104) (from ping) the correct IP add for google.com? Why does linux ONLY (not windows firefox) 3.6.13 say that google.com is a phishing site since yesterday? How can I access google.com (I can from others)?

I have firefox 3.6.13 installed on two linux boxes. Since yesterday I can not load google.com URL on either (while in linux) (get phishing-warning-site.com error). But I can load and use using firefox or internet exployer while in windows. So I "pinged" the URL and got 72.14.204.103 (or 104). So I plugged the IP add into linux firefox and sure enough the site loads (so this means the problem seems to be an IP add resolution problem which I guess could be with my DNS which is westell.com [which is the company that makes my frontier (phone company) DSL gateway/router]). However I use that when I am in windows and as I said that works (and all other sites work in linux)??? Here is what I have tried: 1) Using the IP add lets me into the site - BUT I still can't search because that causes firefox to "lookup" the google URL which then generates the same error. 2) I have cleared out EVERYHING (cache and all). 3) And I have added google.com as an "exception") (I shouldn't have to do that. Floyd,

I am now seeing this same IP address resolution problem slowly (but surely) populate into other browsers (firefox and internet explorer) in windows. The only way I can rationalize this is there is some kind of address resolution problem with one (or more) of ICANN's DNS servers.

I have no problem accessing Google, as you state it may be a problem with the DNS servers that you are using. Try switching to OpenDNS to see if you can access Google - http://www.opendns.com/

Switching to OpenDNS solved the problem. I guess westell.com (my DNS sever) is having problems. It is very strange that only this one site (google) was affected.
