Sometimes I'm deep into a website and want to go back.

So I hit the back button.

Usually this works, but if it's a site where I have a login, often it will tell me my session has expired and I need to log back in.

That is OKAY with me, but if I look in the back-button drop-down, I haven't actually gone back at all!

Example, page 1 is the start page of the website. Page 2 is the login page, and pages 3-10 are where I've navigated, and the site timed out on 10, and took me to 11 (time out page).

So if my "back" history is 5 pages long, (example) then it should look like this:

[ < ]
11
10
9
8
7

I'll drop down and choose page 7, expecting to go 11 -> 7 -> 11.

Then my "back history" should be

[ < ]
11
7
11
6
5

But instead it's still

[ < ]
11
10
9
8
7

So how am I supposed to surf back to 2?

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Jim

Try holding down CTRL+[ to move back. Holding them down should make the keys repeat fast enough that none of the pages in between will have a chance to reload and kick you back to the timeout page. If you're lucky, it'll take you back to page 1.

I admit this is not exactly optimal. (I'd prefer being able to scroll on the drop-down list or something.)

Depending on how the website is built, there are some websites that allow to use the back button while logged in. Generally you should not use the back button on a website where you log in to your account. You can try that this happens in other browsers as well so just don't use the back button on websites where you log in. You can open a new tab for websites where you log in so that your browsing won't get mixed up with your personal stuff.
