I am using Windows XP SP3, Firefox 3.6.x and TOR (The Onion Router) to set the SOCKS proxy. This behavior does not occur when using Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0, at least.

I am not using Windows 7 as the TAGS entry shows. This is also indicated at http://www.showtheip.net, and elsewhere. Perhaps this is the problem.

Update: This was not the problem.

Check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.

Filter: general.useragent

If any general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose Reset.
