On local file links I see an Alert box (The URL is not Valid and cannot be loaded). The file does show, but the box is annoying. Is there no abbout:config setting to suppress the message box? It happens when I select Work Offline, as well

It seems the solution to local file alert is to install Chrome and use it as your default browser!

I am now at Firefox 3.6.10 for Ubuntu due to auto update, Windows does not have the problem.

I started Firefox in safe mode which disabled all of my add-ons and set me back to square one. That resulted in trying to install maybe three addons. No addons work, they download and install, but never show up as installed. Install one addon, restart firefox, go to tools / addons. I just checked addons again and all that shows is recommended.

I have searched till I'm blue faced to find a workaround of the nag alert window for local files and I'm tired of looking for solutions to a pop message that no one knows where it originates. about:config, try-dis, try-dat, chrome works, I'm done.
