I have archived emails up to 2022 and set the retention policy to delete messages more than 900 days old. The Quota value never varies from 95% full (14.2GB/15.0GB) How do I get Thunderbird to delete old emails?

I am not an archive guru, but my understanding is that the message retention logic doe not apply to archives.

That is really the point. Now that all those emails are in archive, they are not part of the retention logic so what is left should respond to wanting to delete what is requested and release the storage space. Not happening.

What I said was that archives do not respond to the delete settings. If you want to delete from archives, that is up to you. Thunderbird assumes archives are not to be touched.
