Hello, I'm facing problem with Thunderbird recently which is when creating additional new Email account for same domain name and setting the POP & SMTP servers, username and password after clicking finish, Thunderbird automatically change the user name on SMTP server of the other Email account on same domain which I added to Thunderbird earlier !!

and when I try to restore the user name of the other Email account on same domain which I added to Thunderbird earlier, the user name of the newly added Email account automatically change on SMTP server to the other user name!!

for example:

I added my first Email account to my Thunderbird as follows:

Account-1:

Email= [email protected] Password= password-1 ( the password of username-1) Incoming mail server (POP) = mail.domain.com Login Credentials of POP= username-1 & password-1 Outgoing mail server (SMTP)= mail.domain.com Login Credentials of SMTP= username-1 & password-1

Now when I try to add new Email account for the same domain like this:

Account-2:

Email= [email protected] Password= password-2 ( the password of username-2) Incoming mail server (POP) = mail.domain.com Login Credentials of POP= username-2 & password-2 Outgoing mail server (SMTP)= mail.domain.com Login Credentials of SMTP= username-2 & password-2

and after I click finish, the user name on the SMTP server only of the account-2 change automatically to the username-1 as following:

Account-2:

Email= [email protected] Password= password-2 ( the password of username-2) Incoming mail server (POP) = mail.domain.com Login Credentials of POP= username-2 & password-2 Outgoing mail server (SMTP)= mail.domain.com Login Credentials of SMTP= username-1 & password-1

and when I try to go to SMTP on account-2 and click "Edit" and change the login credentials for account-2 and make it : Login Credentials of SMTP= username-2 & password-2

Thunderbird automatically change the login credentials of the SMTP server of account-1 to become Login Credentials of SMTP= username-2 & password-2  !!

and again if I try to restore the login credentials of the SMTP server of account-1 to username-1 & password-1, Thunderbird automatically change the login credentials of the SMTP server of account-2 to become Login Credentials of SMTP= username-1 & password-1  !!

This is so weird, I've never faced this problem before with Thunderbird ,

anybody can help me please ?

I'm not able to set multiple accounts for same domain on my Thunderbird.

Please help. Thank you

TB doesn't automatically change smtp settings. But some providers like gmail can make it appear that this is happening because gmail will automatically make messages appear as if they are sent from a different account, if the accounts are not sending through the correct smtp servers. E.g., if gmail1 is sending on the gmail2 smtp, recipients will see the message is sent from gmail2.

The problem is usually because the accounts are not correctly set to send on smtp servers that have a matching User Name. See this topic: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1350593

Are you able to send email from both accounts? The purpose of the password on smtp server is to confirm to your email provider that you are authorized to use the server.

Hello david, Yes of course I am able to send email from both in case I entered the right credentials of each account.

but as explained above, the problem is that when I add the second account (account-2) and enter the correct credentials ( username-2 & password-2) and click finish, Thunderbird automatically change the user name on the SMTP server only of the account-2 to the username-1 !

and if I tried to go to SMTP on account-2 and click "Edit" and change the login credentials for account-2 and make it : Login Credentials of SMTP= username-2 & password-2 , then Thunderbird automatically change the login credentials of the SMTP server of account-1 to become Login Credentials of SMTP= username-2 & password-2  !!

I know that the purpose of the password on smtp server is to confirm to my email provider that you are authorized to use the server.

What is the problem here ! why Thunderbird is automatically change the credentials of the second account I add ?!!

This is start happening recently as I never faced such problem with Thunderbird before !

I have added earlier more than 50 different accounts on my Thunderbird and all were working find and every account has different user name & password never had this issue... what happened now!

I hope someone can help me.

Thank you,

My earlier question was on whether you can ignore the smtp settings and still send mail from all accounts. Since all of your passwords are authentic, it seems that the smtp server will accept any of them. If so, is there a problem, or a curiosity issue? You never stated that email is not working. Please clarify that.

David the problem is not in the SMTP server name as it is not changing !

The problem is with the user credentials on the SMTP which are changing when I add the account !

How can I ignore the SMTP settings as when I want to send Emails from account-2 it is sending using the credentials of account-1 so the recipients will see the Emails coming from account-1 not from account-2 !!

I hope that is clear for you.

Thanks,

Hello sfhowes,

Thanks for your reply,

I'm not using Gmail anyway, as I stated in my description above, I'm using my domain Emails, however, your advice on the link you provided helped solve the problem by adding new SMTP servers, but I don't know why TB is not adding the server automatically for the new user.

But for now, this issue is resolved and thank you again for your interest & care.

All the best.

I'm gonna mark this question as resolved.
