Compacting folders – WHERE does it happen? IMAP-server, local or both?

I searched the help and F&A section and tried to google for an answer – but found nothing. So hopefully someone here can answer my (may be too obvious) question.

With an IMAP account set up – WHERE will folders be compressed if the command is executed In the SERVER, on my LOCAL hard drive or BOTH?

I do not want to (actually must not) change anything on the server – I only want to compress my local hard disk.

It does not affect the server. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compacting-folders

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compacting-folders now explains it MUCH better.

If you still have Comapct problems please post a new support request.
