Can I change the default message columns to display so they do not change with updates?

I change the columns displayed in my message view. These change back to "default" when Thunderbird updates.

Where can I change the default so it is easier to reset both after an update and as I create new folders?

I use the Vertical view.

(Of course it would be helpful if updates did not change my customized column selections.)

Mine stay as I set them when updating/upgrading.

So, what are you and I doing differently?

Do you use anything such as CCleaner? Do you routinely delete msf files?

I do not do the cleaning you describe. This is on a Mac. Do you manually update? When my Thunderbird does the automatic update is when the columns change.

Or could it be some other event that I mistake as an update? I often get the message about "cannot compress because another process is running", so could Thunderbird be doing something else in the background and lose my settings?
