For 10 days now google mail does not function properly when I open it with Firefox: emails won't be opened or if they open it does not appear as read, emails cannot be deleted. I have uninstalled Firefox and installed the latest version, no change. When I use Chrome, all works well I use a Mac, MacOS Sierra version 10.12.5

Thanks for your help

Do you have a mouse with only one button or do you have more buttons on your mouse?

The Reload button is the circular arrow icon at the right end of the location/address bar where you type the website address.

You can click this button with the mouse or tap the mouse pad to reload the current page. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard while you click this icon to force Firefox to retrieve a fresh copy from the server.

If that isn't working then you may have installed an extension that is causing some problems.

You can find your installed extensions on the about:addons page. You can find Add-ons in the list that opens in you click the button with the three bar at the right end of the location bar and in the Tools menu.

  • "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Options key while starting Firefox In Firefox Safe Mode your extensions are disabled and allows to check for issues caused by enabled extensions. See this article for more details.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox -> Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

This is completely incomprehensible!!!! I have no idea what you are talking about: "You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
   press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
   press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)"

It looks to me that this response is a joke ! No idea what is a reload button, no idea what is a left click without a mouse....

This was much more at my level of understanding. Thanks! The only extension that I have installed is ad blocker and the problem started before I added it. I tried the reload. Hope this works...
