When I go to print landscape is the default. How do I change it to portrait?
The default for printing in Thunderbird is "Landscape" and I have to change it to "Portrait" every time I want to print an e-mail. Also, once I've done so, and want to print another e-mail, when I click on "Properties" to change from Landscape to Portrai,, Properties won't open. I want to change the default to "Portrait."

Sounds like you need to fix your printer driver. Once you click print in Thunderbird and the print driver screen opens it is no longer a Thunderbird problem.

I must admit I don't know if the print properties page is the same for all operating systems and you don't mention which operating system you use. I only use Thunderbird on Mac.
When you select File - Print or ctrl-P, and the print dialog is displayed, is there a "show details" button? If so, click that to reveal the page layout settings.
I use a desktop PC using Window 7 Professional and a Canon Image Class MF 216n 4-in-1 printer. The problem is with selecting "Print" when I'm in Thunderbird and want to print an e-mail.
How your printer reacts is a function of your printer driver software.
Go to File-Print Preview and check the box for Portrait.
There is no "Print Preview" when I go to "Print." I have Thunderbird on three computers (one work desktop, one home desktop and one laptop and this problem only occurs with my work desktop which uses a Canon Image Class MF 216n 4-in-1 printer. Today I can't even change the orientation to Portrait, because when I click on "Properties," nothing happens--i.e., it doesn't open up the screen showing Portrait and Landscape with Landscape selected automatically.
