The options tab was probably set as Firefox's homepage. You should be able to stop the options tab from displaying at startup by changing the homepage.

For more information about changing the Firefox homepage, please refer to this Mozilla support article:

Firefox can be setup to open multiple pages on startup. Please do the following to ensure that the options page is not setup to open on startup:

  1. Go to the Firefox options
  2. Select General from the sidebar
  3. Ensure only one URL is located in the Home Page option

Note: URLs are separated with a vertical bar (|).

Firefox uses a vertical bar ('|') to separate multiple home pages. You can check the home page setting to see if the about:preferences page is included as one of the home pages (|about:preferences#general).

This can happen if you click "Use Current Page(s)" to set the home page and about:preferences is open in a tab. You can pin the tab with the about:preferences page via the right-click context menu of the tab to prevent including about:preferences to the home page setting if you want to use this button in "Options/Preferences > General". To set a single page as the home page you can drag the globe/padlock to the toolbar Home button.

Thanks, Cor-el,

I didn't get the other stuff --- but easy solution : I simply backspaced the | & the "about:prefs" part following it. No more Options tab !!!! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !
