Hi,

I post a message un-answered on an another forum :

"I have the same problem since windows 10 et FF 40, I've tried : - uninstall graphics drivers, DDU, reinstall (AMD) - reinstall firefox, new profile, safe mode (doesn't seem to be bugged, but it's random) - reinstall c++ redistributable 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 - reinstall flash player, shockwave, java and silverlight - in CCC set anti-aliasing from multisampling to supersampling (fixed some others troubles, and for some people fixed B/W screen bug)

I don't know if I have to uninstall MS ASP.NET MVC3 and MVC4, ASP.net Web Pages, I know on win10 we only have .NET Framework 4.6 installed and auto-updated. (We can't install others versions of .NET)

I don't have this bug on youtube, mainly on twitch.tv, facebook, sometimes on imgur when there are a lot of things on the page.

For me when I move on the status bar, the browser goes normally but the bug persist after especially if I'm watching a stream on twitch.tv.

Elsewhere on my normal navigation, I don't have this bug.

No memory leak for me I think (400mo with addons) and normal CPU usage (like 5 tabs with a video)

I play stream on chrome and since win10 no bug or crash, so it means it's firefox bug. I don't have any trouble on my computer about a potential display driver bug (like in video games).

I don't know what I have to do to fix my problem... I've tried many things for nothing..."

I don't want to install beta driver of AMD and disable hardware acceleration (too usefull...)

I see on the "Know issues" of latest AMD drivers changelog :

"[424127] The Firefox browser may crash while opening multiple tabs (2 or more)

- Disabling hardware acceleration or opening multiple windows instead of multiple tabs is a temporary workaround solution"

Maybe there is a link between this and my problem ?

if I'm watching a video, even if this bug appear, all around the video is black but the video still running and it doesn't affect by the bug.

And I see a lot of people on internet with this problem, many of them since Win10 (fresh install or not), latest driver and >FF40

Voilà it's all I know with all my researches, Thanks in advance

EDIT : I'm on AMD forums now, and I see some people have this trouble since FF 41 and not on FF40, others like me have it on FF41-40, stable or beta drivers (BTW there is a video memory leak on lastest beta driver on firefox), maybe a firefox and AMD bug at the same time ?

I understand that you do not want to disable the driver, however the black screen and gfx crash indicates that this might be what is affecting it.

To make sure its not the crash, I might suggest to disable gfx.driver-init.feature-d2d: true or try in Safe Mode to see if the black screen still appears.

Thanks for your answer !

I set gfx.driver-init.feature-d2d: true to false, restart FF, and I'm watching a stream on twitch since 20min and no bug for now, I'm gonna test a bit longer (because random), since the black screen bug FF crashed 3 times (after a black sceen bug).

I have a question if disable this is a solution, what I'm gonna loose of my FF navigation ? What gfx.driver-init.feature-d2d affects exactly ? I think it's about 2D processing with my GPU on FF (if I'm trying to understand the name of this option), I'm gonna feel something different ?

EDIT : I'm watching the same for like 45min, no bug, but something strange, when I set gfx.driver-init.feature-d2d to false, I restart FF and started a stream, I'm seeing now it's set to true by itself, is it normal ?

past 2 days I ran a SFC/ scannow command on CMD on windows, and a DISM command too to check and repair system files, updated all my motherboard drivers (WU drivers installed before, from upgrading) and yesterday on windows store there were .net updates, maybe something repaired ? (black doesn't appear now) I didn't test on twitch after that, and I can't remember if I experienced the bug since commands/updates. (Because bug I didn't use FF so much this past days)

EDIT 2 : nearly 2h (on 30fps and 60fps streams) and no black screens. (gfx.driver-init.feature-d2d:true, didn't changed again)

hi,

ok so after last days, I used FF a lot like before, and no black screen except twice :

- After a crash test : a stream on twitch (source quality) + 7 tabs on tumblr with a lot of images and gifs, up my FF ram usage to 1.5go and CPU usage to 65% and after ~1h-1h30 I've got a black screen, I moved the FF windows to get my page back, and no bugs after

- And random on twitch with the button to see stats, a black screen, but after no bug

In any case, no need to restart FF (before yes, because bug persisted) and except the second case, I have to crash test my FF to get this bug. I can't tell my bug is solved because it's still appearing, but it's in really rare case, I watched a lot of streams (long time) in background and FF seems more stable (before after 1min I got a black screen).

between my last tests (between firefox bugged and less bugged) I did :

- Update motherboard drivers - SFC /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth commands in CMD (Admin) - An update of .Net Runtime in Windows Store released

EDIT : On facebook always, only on emotes menu, elsewhere no problem for now
