CANNOT BRING BACK PREVIOUS BOOKMARKS ARE WINDOWS RESTORE.

more options

After doing a windows restore. I found that I lost all my bookmarks (about 75 of them). When I went into "old firefox data" (from a previous instruction) I got a list of files by "bookmarks, date, a bunch of letters and numbers, then a motified date, and a jsonlz4 type file. When I click on one of these, it brings up a window that asks me to "open with" and "save". I put in Firefox to "open with", and when I clicked on OK, it just brought up the same window, over and over again.

Did I lose ALL my bookmarks, because of the "restore"?? I have restored in the past with no problems with the bookmarks.

I tried to upload an image, of the above procedure, but I do not think it will upload.

"open with" can't be used to load Firefox system files. If you bookmarks are in a .JSON (or jsonlz4) file , use the keys Ctrl+Shift+H to open the Library. Then click on "Import and Backup", "Restore", "Choose file…" and choose your .JSON file.

Otherwise, copy your old Firefox data in the following directory (or something like that): C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[…].default (overwrite existing files). If you have multiple folders and files in your old data, make sure that each directory of the backup matches with the used directory. Previous bookmarks backups are in "\bookmarkbackups".

The info you supplied did not seem to work. It still "locks me out" of going further after getting that small window form (as in the picture. There is no way to change it per your instructions. When I click OK, it just bounces back.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

Sorry, but how exactly did you try to restore that jsonlz4 file? The ONLY way is through the Library dialog. Maybe it will be clearer from this article: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer -- skip to the "Restoring from backups" section.
