Hello,

I installed Firefox 3, I did check for update, but 4.0.1 when running show me this message: "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features." I have Windows XP Professional... I run the Google Chrome 11.0.696.60, I would like to write me first: How do I fully uninstall and then: how to install Firefox;

thanks a lot

To resolve this error there is no need to re-install Firefox, for details of how to resolve this see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Could+not+initialize+the+browser+security+component

As I mentioned above, there is no need to re-install Firefox as re-installing Firefox will not fix this. The link I posted above shows how to correct this. Have you tried all the options shown in that link? Did you find the Firefox profile folder?

I found Firefox profile folder, but is empty because there is not Firefox , I have uninstalling, also I can not found cert8.db

what can I do?

The profile folder will only be empty if you chose the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data" which will delete all of your Firefox user data.

What location did you find the profile folder in?

On Windows XP the default location of the profile folder is C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>

here C:\Documents and Settings\<win login/user name>\Application Data\mozilla\firefox

The location that Tony posted is for Windows 7 and Vista.

The location that you posted is correct for Windows XP.
If there aren't any profile folders with a random name in that location then there is something wrong

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Which folders do you have in that location?

Is there a Firefox folder (Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\) ?
If there is, are there any files or folders in it?
