Hello,

I was having problems with one of my passwords not updating correctly in firefox 105.0.1 I exported all of the passwords into a csv file and then followed the steps outlined here in the forum to turn on import passwords from a file. Then while trying to fix the password problem I removed all passwords/ids. I clicked on the import from a file, selected the file I exported to but nothing happens.. No passwords, no id's. I thought maybe I wouldn't see it in the about:logins screen, so I tested out three different sites from the export file and no luck on anything. I was expecting a box to pop up telling me the import was successful or if I was sure I wanted to import all of these passwords but nothing, so even though I get the drop down to import I can't. Has anyone experienced this problem before or any solutions.

Thanks in advance

You need to enable import CSV in the Password Manager (about:logins) via the about:config page as this menu item is currently hidden for performance reasons.

Importing a CSV login file via the about:logins page is broken in current Firefox releases. You can temporarily set security.allow_eval_in_parent_process = true on the about:config page to bypass this security measure and make importing work. Make sure to reset the pref to false after you are done (i.e. leave about:config open).

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. On the warning page, you can click "Accept the Risk and Continue"to open about:config.

WARNING: modifying prefs directly via the about:config page can sometimes break Firefox or cause strange behavior, and there is no guarantee that this will keep working in future Firefox releases, so be cautious with modifying prefs if you aren't sure you understand their purpose and only do this if you know what you're doing.

The CSV import bug is fixed in Firefox 108, so in 104-107 you still need a workaround and flip the pref temporarily to import the logins.

If you have access to a device/profile/backup that still has all logins then you can possibly copy logins.json and key4.db from this device to your current profile folder. You would lose current logins though, so export the current logins to CSV.
