Why does the library no longer immediately show my bookmarks?

I’m using FF on an iPad. Relatively recently, the “library” seemed to replace the bookmarks function, but I got used to that. However, the most recent update (to Version 17.2) has buried my Bookmarks one level further down, which is quite irritating. Specifically, when I hit the Library icon, I am now presented with four options (BM Menu, BM Toolbar, Unsorted BMs and Mobile BMs). The first three are all empty, but when I select Mobile Bookmarks, all my old Bookmarks appear and I can now select the one I want. How can I get rid of this interim step and get back to the prior behaviour? (NB I have reviewed various other support questions re Bookmark behaviour and organising and I must say that nonce of those seem to help as they refer to solutions which do not seem to exist in my UI. E.g. when I hit the menu there is no “customise” option; I have no “sidebar”; etc.)

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar

Thanks Cor-el. This doesn't help me, I'm afraid. When I click on the bookshelf icon, there is no "bookmarks" option presented. As above, I have four other options (BM Menu, BM Toolbar, Unsorted BMs and Mobile BMs). I also have not found a way to reach the Customize palette. In case it helps, I attach a screencap of my navigation bar, and the menu I get after "bookshelf".

The Mobile Bookmarks folder shows bookmarks that were downloaded from the Sync server and that were uploaded to the Sync server from another device, so these bookmarks aren't actually present on your computer. You would have to do a Copy and Paste to one of your local Firefox root bookmarks folders (Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Toolbar).

I’m sorry - I don’t understand this or how it helps me solve my problem.

I think that the Mobile Bookmarks folder is not a real folder, but is merely a list of bookmarks similar to smart folder list like "Recently Bookmarked" that shows a list of bookmarks that are stored each in their own folder. In the case of Mobile Bookmarks you get a list of bookmarks on other connected devices. To make them real bookmarks you would have to move or rather copy these bookmarks to one of the bookmarks root folders (i.e. the other folders in the second screenshot). On Mac, easiest is probably doing this in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) and use the Organize menu (first, cogwheel, button toolbar button).

Sounds like I need someone else using an iPad to chase this down. Thanks anyway.
