Yes, see the system requirements.

Thank You TYDraniu!

I have my settings to update automatically. I read that it may be a day or two before everyone will receive it automatically Or will I have to update manually? I like to wait until it does it automatically.

It's better to wait a few days for auto update.

Too Late! It already updated! I check About Firefox and it just started to update!

Is there a reason to wait a few days?

Thank You for responding so quick.

Hello gipsykitty,

Would you be so kind as to mark TyDraniu's post (his first post) as Chosen Solution  ?

('Solved the problem' button to the right of that post)

Thank you in advance   !

I did as you asked. However, I have one more concern. He said it is better to wait a few days to update. Why?

It is too late because I checked About Firefox and it started to update and finished. Why is it better to wait a few days to update? I did ask him but haven't received any reason why it is better to wait.

When you posted, Firefox hadn't automatically updated yet, and instead of manually updating, it would be best to wait for Firefox to update automatically (to save you the hassle).

But then : Yay  ! Firefox updated ..... you didn't even have to wait.

That's sweet ....

But it was TyDraniu who answered your original question, and you did the right thing marking that post as Chosen Solution ☺

Mozilla doesn't update every user automatically on the first day of a new Release version, it is spread out over a few days. It is typically a staged update where a small percentage of users get the new Firefox Release the first day (IOW it is "throttled") with two benefits; one is that the updates server doesn't get overloaded by the demand and the 2nd is that if the new update creates problems that were missed fixing in the Beta stage not every user is affected. The update can be put on hold so that Mozilla can look into the problem, if one exists.

Yes, opening About Firefox will trigger an update check, which does proceed to installation - thus overriding the "delay" that can happen when Firefox checks the update server automatically upon "first launch each day".

Thank You the-edmeister for the detailed explanation.

I am an 80 year old "computer illiterate" senior. (Well, I know enough to get by.) But I like detailed explanations. If there are too many bugs will they issue a fix?

Big Question. Do you think this last update will be the last for Mavericks?

There's no such plans yet. Usually they give information in advance of 6 months about abandoning the system.
