Can tracking cookies monitor my activity on non-affiliated websites?

Some websites (e.g Amazon) states they do not follow "do not track" requests. I'm wondering if their tracking cookies will follow me onto a non-affiliated website. For instance, if I am on the Amazon website shopping for a particular item and then I go to Target for a price comparison, can Amazon tell (1) that I'm on the Target website and (2) what I'm looking at on the Target website as I move between webpages? Similarly, if I go to a non-commercial website to find medical information, can Amazon see what I'm looking at? If the answer to the above questions is yes, would this be true only if I have the Amazon window open or can tracking cookies be placed on my computer that monitor my activity even when I am not on Amazon? Thank you

The answer to all is yes. Tracking cookies start as soon as you open your browser and go with site to site. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie

Install https://www.superantispyware.com/ then go to preferences and turn off start at boot. No point in it running as if you do not buy it you do not get real time protection. Is run in demand. Is very good for tracking cookies.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you, Pkshadow.

I'm wondering if I can get around this without installing anything. I often use a private window with tracking protection -- is this sufficient to keep my activity from being tracked at the time? I also often remove particular sites using Firefox's "Manage Data" button. Will all persistent tracking cookies for the website be deleted if I do this?
