I am running Thunderbird 38.4 on WIndows 7.

Thunderbird currently starts and then hangs at various stages. Sometimes it hangs immediately. Sometimes it hangs after 5 minutes of usage. The solution so far has been to kill and restart. However, eventually it would hang on every restart.

I have read various posts from people having similar issues but none of the solutions suggested have worked. Solutions that have not worked include starting in Safe mode; deleting various profile files such as panacea.dat, folderTree.json etc do not seem to have lasting effect.

Usually a reboot of Windows allows Thunderbird to go back to 'hanging after a certain amount of time' mode meaning it iwould owkr only until then.

Has anyone got any idea about the causes and what else I could try? I have Thunderbird installed on another machine so could just the profile files over if that's the problem. As it is, I am using Thunderbird at this other machine as it is unusable on this one. Otherwise, is it possible to investigate know what is causing Thurderbird to hang?

Thanks in advance for any kind assistance.
