Firefox continually freezes before even loading a webpage when trying to open, either in normal mode or in safe mode, and I have to "Force Quit" to close it.

This only started occurring after I updated Flash. I have since uninstalled Flash from my computer (Macbook Pro 13") and I have refreshed Firefox. Refreshing Firefox to the default settings worked for 1 night, but as soon as I "quit" Firefox and tried to open it again, it hangs up. If I open in normal mode I don't even get as far as my homepage opening, just a blank white screen. If I try to open in Safe Mode, it appears to open fine but as soon as I click anywhere on the page it freezes. In both instances I can only close it if I click "Force Quit."

Are you running Firefox in a VM (virtual machine) environment? You could be seeing this bug:

  • bug 1180688 - On OSX 10.10 yosemite VM everything renders as black or white except popups/panels
