Today I made the stupidest thing - to update to the latest version. That was really stupid because it seems every new version has some big prob.:( This time closing from the red x at the right top doesn't work. Application can be closed with right-clicking and choosing close at taskbar or to close the tab (if only one is open).

Actually this problem has been due to Tab related extensions like TMP.

Also the X on title bar does not actually close Firefox unless it was the Last window or dialog closed. The Exit/Quit in menu i closes the whole Firefox browser at once.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem: Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if it goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

Thank you! It does not occur in Safe Mode. Also I disabled Hardware Acceleration, hope this may be help with Adobe Flash Player numberless issues.

Unfortunately I have many add-ons and can't disable and re-enable any to see which causes the closing button issue. Seems I should exit in another ways.

It is the theme that causes it, not the same theme but an add-on which creates the bug combined with the theme. I found a solution in theme's page.

I fixed this by updating TabMixPlus from 0.4.1.7.1 to the latest development build 0.4.1.8pre.150317a1 The download link is at the top right of their support forum http://tmp.garyr.net/support/viewtopic.php?t=2
