I just got a new laptop and am using Windows 8.1 for the first time. I have it set to sync with my work desktop and my home desktop. Now, every time I reboot, restart or come back from sleep mode on the laptop and go to any site which requires me to be logged in, I need to actually login fresh whereas before, on my old Vista laptop I would just stay logged in. It is mildly annoying and I'd like to be able to solve the issue. Thanks.

Maybe your cookies are deleted when you restart Firefox? Have a look at Settings/Preferences -> Privacy to make sure, they aren't.

Details like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) are stored in a cookie.

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history:

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

My problem since switching to windows 8.1 is that FF keeps logging me out of everything even when I keep the browser active.

When i first turn on the computer, it'll log me out after just 4 or 5 minutes of active use. Then the time increment increases each time. The best I can do is about one hour. After that it just logs everything out. It's very annoying if you're doing a lot of work on many different websites at the same time that all require logins. It's especially annoying if you lose a lot of text you've spent a long time writing.

I never had this problem with Windows 7. Now I'm using FF 36, just updated today and it's still a problem. I don't think it's my cookies configuration.

Sometimes Google or Yahoo will tell me my website isn't accepting cookies. Then, one minute later, I can login no problem. Then after 10, 20, or 30 minutes it logs me out again. And the cycle repeats. It's like FF clears and refuses to accept cookies for about a minute or two, and then goes back to "normal".

I have no idea why this is happening.
