I don't want to lose my bookmarks and system I've set up, how do I sync a new computer without losing my old sync information?

I have a very extensive bookmark system already in place with the old sync. I just got a new laptop and need all of those bookmarks to transfer and sync to the new laptop. The website tells me that it doesn't recognize my account name, and I don't want to lose all my old information. I am scared that the procedure they mention if you have an old account, will not sync my bookmarks. How should I proceed?

You can't Sync between devices with the new Sync version and the old Sync version.

You will have to update all devices to Firefox 29 or later to be able to use the new Sync.

Does this mean if I update my old laptop, then the bookmarks will transfer? I just want to make sure I do not lose my information?

Please back up your Firefox personal data (in your Profile) before doing anything. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Note that you have to update ALL of your devices to use Firefox 29 in order to use the new Sync. Once you update your Sync account to the new version using the Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more link then your bookmarks ,etc will be transferred over.

Thank you Ed for putting that in. It's always recommended to back up all of your personal information e.g. bookmarks, passwords in case something goes wrong.
