I am not online every day, or even every week. I seems to me that my Firefox is updating fairly frequently. Is this normal? Does my Firefox need to be updated more than once or twice a year? I admit I have not kept a record of the number of times or the dates it has had to be updated. It just seems like it is fairly frequent, and I have not noticed any differences. This is not a problem, it is just a question.

Because it took forever to release Firefox 4, Mozilla switched to a release schedule where a new version comes out every 6 weeks. If you don't use Firefox regularly, you may find that it double-updates, i.e., updates to the next version, then leaps to the current version, instead of directly updating to the latest version.

Thank you for your clear, concise and timely response. This will help me to keep the seemingly frequent updates in perspective.

Thank you for explaining it in such an easy to understand way. I was half expecting that I would get some technical jargon that would not make sense to me.

Wow, this is even better than the rhyme and reason of the earlier responses. I admit that I do not understand the difference between merge dates and release dates, although I can clearly see that they are usually scheduled about 1 day apart and that after the release has happened the merge date is no longer important. I also do not know what the headings central, aurora, beta and release mean. It is enough for me to know that I have access to the schedule. Thank you for your kind attention.
