as said, for as long as I've had firefox (on two computers, one with xp, the other win7) the spell check that comes with the program doesn't work, I do have the most up to date version (10.0.2) but it doesn't auto check, nor do I have any other way of getting it to do so.

Hi,

You can try to enable the setting via Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Advanced > General > Check my spelling as I type. You can also set the preference for individual sites by enabling/disabling Check Spelling option on the right-click menu of a typing text box like this. If additional dictionaries are installed, you may also have to choose the correct dictionary from the right-click menu > Languages.
