Missing menu, other answer didn't help
My menu bar is still missing! I run Ubuntu, and I tried pressing alt. Nothing happens. When I right-click on empty space on the tab toolbar, I get Navigation, Bookmarks, and Add-ons. No menu! I just installed Ubuntu and need to update my bookmarks. The setup here does remind me of Windows 7 but I know how to fix it with that.

Ubuntu 11.04 displays window menus in the control bar at the top of the screen with the change to Unity as desktop manager.
Click on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks then move your mouse to the left upper corner toward Firefox Web Browser.
You'll get pop up menu (Organize, Views and Import and Backup).

Hello Cor-el. Like the original poster, I don't have a menu bar in Unity, nor do I see the "Firefox" button I keep reading about. I can't figure out what you mean by "control bar"... [Edit] OK, I see what you mean. I use the Ubuntu Studio theme, which puts black text on a black background at the top, rendering the menus invisible. They drop down when I move the cursor over them. Only the red close window button is visible; the minimize and restore can't be seen. Curse you, Dark Theme!
