I would like to turn off the bookmarks sidebarhow do I do this?
For some reason a bookmarks sidebar has appeared on my firefox home page. I did not ask for this and I do not want this as it seams to squash all my pages when i go on the web. If I can not remove this sjdebar on the left hand side of my screen I will remove firefox as my web provider. I should have been given the choice to have this sidebar or not, not just have you put it on. Also I have never used yahoo I prefer google why have I been forced to have this on my computer?

You need to update some plug-ins:
- Plug-in check: https://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
- Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in: Installing (or Updating) the Shockwave plugin with Firefox
- Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape: Installing/Updating Adobe Reader in Firefox
- Next Generation Java Plug-in for Mozilla browsers: Installing or Updating Java in Firefox
Click on View icon at top[ of screen, uncheck sidebar option :)
Just tried to keep it simple in my first answer.
BumbleBeeBurton: That works only if the Menu Bar is displayed or the user knows how to temporarily display the Menu Bar if the user is using the default Firefox button in Windows 7.
Other methods to turn the Bookmarks Sidebar off (checked= displayed; un-checked=not displayed)
- Press the ALT key or the F10 key to temporarily display the Menu Bar, the click View > Sidebar, click Bookmarks Sidebar to check/un-check it
- ALT+V+E+B to reverse the state of the Bookmarks Sidebar
- ALT+V, click Sidebar > Bookmarks Sidebar to check/un-check it
