A random toolbar somehow managed to install itself in my firefox, and change the default search engine (for when you use the address bar) to its own. I uninstalled the toolbar and set the default search engine back to google, but now a feature of firefox isn't working anymore: before, if I typed part of an easily recognizable URL, it would redirect there. so if I typed "google" on the address bar, it would redirect me to "google.com". now it just show the google search results for the word "google". same for any other word. I loved that feature and I want it back...

You can modify the pref keyword.URL on the about:config page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".

also. I used this method to make the search default go back to google: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/how-to/change-firefox-4-address-bar-search-engine-provider/

and before I changed it, when it was still the toolbar's random search engine, it wasn't working either. basically not working since the damn thing installed itself... I thought unninstalling it would work and it didn't, I thought reverting back to google as the default search engine would work and it didn't...

I unninstalled and reinstalled firefox too, but without deleting my personal preferences and stuff because I didn't want to lose them. it didn't work, obviously... didn't think it would =/
