3.6.6 is a HORROR! And it isn't just the Flash that is having problems. When FF launches my external download manager, three things happen and all of them are bad.

CPU usage goes up to 100 percent. 95 percent of that is FF. FF memory usage goes up to 300 MB or more. The whole computer freezes.

The download manager I use is Star Downloader Free 1.45. It works perfectly with Chrome and with SRWare Iron.

I have the same problem , plus my PC crushed a lot of time because of it I cannot write this comment easily too because of it

I have the same problem with a quad pc and 8 gig or ram(win xp),if they don't fix it soon I will move back to IE or safari as it is impossible to work on the net now. it takes at least 20 % of my cpu with pretty much no plugins.

I installed FF 4.0 beta 1 and started it with a clean profile.

Mirabile dictu: It solves the problem with Star Downloader.

Now the question is, what in the 4.0 configuration can be copied to the 3.6.x profile?

I have the same problem and I am thinking of switching to Chrome. How can Mozilla allow this to go on for so long?

The OP is dated 29 June and there's been no direct help or advice posted (other than links to other threads that may or may not be relevant). Yeah good job Mozilla, looking after so many users in this way is going to attract attention - maybe not the type you'd like though.

I too am pissed at this and using the Evil Empire's Vista on a 2.6GHz Intel Quad Core 2 w 4GB RAM.

Is disabling this plugin-container.exe a fix? How's that done anyway please? And my favourite spider's gone AWOL too GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr :(

OK guys this looks as though it may work because after I disabled those pesky dll's my usual Flash site worked a treat.

Still haven't found spider yet ...

I'm running FF 3.6.6 and Vista with sp 1.

Whenever the pc comes out of Hibernate FF crashes due to plugin-container.exe.

Any chance of fix or are Mozilla SO convinced that plugin-container.exe is such a good idea they're going to ignore the problem ?

My 3 year-old son has been acting weird since FF upgraded itself to 3.6.6. Win7 64bit.

My PC freeze all the time. It is ridiculous from Mozilla not to solve the problem....

Don't you ever go back to IE. I have switched to Chrome, and it works very well, better than firefox. Anyway, Firefox 3.6.7 has just been released, and perhaps the problems have been fixed. Just try.

Folks, I uninstalled Java from my Evil Empire's Vista and lo & behold, after re-booting and doing a registry cleanup using cCleaner (see google etc), I reckon the fault may well lie in the battle between Firefox and Java because things worked as if Firefox was at v2.0 AND I found the waggling tail of a suffocated goldfish too.

I hadn't re-installed the Java update, but merely uninstalled and rebooted.

There may hope for us yet folks, but I reckon the mozilla proggie-guys need to get Firefox talking to Java in a non-aggressive manner please. Otherwise I think the goldfish will perish of a stranglehold to both gills :(

Ok firefox team. You finally forced me to try Chrome. I'm even running IE again (gasp!). Nothing seems to run right in FF now (3.6.7)
