quote marks and apostrophes do not display properly
When I receive emails from some of my friends, quotation marks and apostrophes do not display properly. Instead of apostrophes, I get ’. Instead of quotation marks, I get “. If I reply to one of these emails, and my correspondent replies back to me, quotation marks display as “.
As you can imagine, this makes reading emails annoying. What causes this, and Is there some way to fix it? Thank you!

Try this:
- Menu icon > Options > Advanced > 'general' tab
- click on 'Config Editor' button
It will say be careful :)
In top search type: force_char look for this line:
- mailnews.force_charset_override
If it says value is 'True':
- double click on the line to toggle the Value to say 'false'
- close window - top right X
- click on 'OK'
Check this setting:
- Right click on 'Inbox'
- click on 'Properties'
- uncheck the checkbox “Apply encoding to all messages in the folder…”
- click on 'OK'

Thank you so much - that fixed it and it was so simple!
All the recommended settings for force_char and inbox properties were already applied so why is this now happening?

I looked back at my emails and see it only occurred once. Now I cannot find it. Since I use imap, maybe it self-corrected?
