Ever since the recent 52.4.0 update, clicking links in Thunderbird opens a new window in Chrome, but does not actually go to the link. Previously it would open a new tab in Chrome and go to the link. I have Thunderbird set to open Chrome instead of my default browser with the following settings:

network.protocol-handler.app.http;"/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app" network.protocol-handler.app.https;"/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app"

I reset the options, but it's still doing the same thing. Is this a bug, or do I need to add something new to the config?

However, an update for Chrome was apparently just released, and did fix the issue, so it must have been a Chrome update that broke it. Thanks anyway!

Your problem is with the browser not Thunderbird, so it does not really a topic for this forum. However, I found something which may help you at the following link.

That answer seems to apply only to Windows. I'm using a Mac. Links within Chrome work just fine. It's only links coming from Thunderbird that has issues.
